I had the wonderful luck and privilege to be able to attend Donna Eden's 5 Day Introduction to Energy Medicine class in Cardiff, Wales as a Teaching Assistant (TA). It was an amazing and inspiring event - over 300 class attendees, and about 25 teaching assistants. This was the largest 5 Day Class that Donna has taught, and when that many people are together working on their energies, it is powerful, and intense. Class attendees were hungry for ways to feel more alive, joyous, energetic and balanced, and with that hunger they brought an openness and enthusiasm that was inspiring.
One of the key teachings for the class is the Daily Energy Routine (DER). Over the course of her 25 year practice, Donna identified 7-10 exercises which most effectively balance and strengthen the energy systems for most people. The exercises, collectively known as the Daily Energy Routine, are taught individually throughout the class, and over the course of the class you learn them as a routine.
Most of the attendees were feeling wonderful as the course progressed. But a number were not feeling so good. When this happens it can be a confusing time - there's been an investment of money, time and energy to get to this class, where you are supposed to be learning how to feel better, but you don't feel better, and perhaps even feel worse! What's up with this energy medicine stuff anyway?
As part of my role as a TA, I was able to work with some of the people who weren't feeling well. The universe has a way of connecting us with people who can help us, and by no random coincidence, people that I connected with were showing up with vulnerabilities in the systems that I have had to work with more than others to keep balanced. As I worked with them, it gave me a chance to gather a little bit of data regarding a theory of mine. If there isn't a shift in energy in how one is feeling when doing an exercises in the DER, noticing that can be important information about underlying energetic vulnerabilities. It can be a good indicator when energy systems need a different approach, or a perhaps a little kick-start, before the exercises as generally taught, will have the intended impact.
On some level this seems like a no brainer, but for me, it really took a while for me to come to this understanding. Within my own practice The Celtic Weave (to balance the aura), the Hook Up (connects Governing and Central meridians, and strenghtens the Aura), and Wayne Cook (corrects scrambled energies) were sort of "non-events" or "ho-hum." I never really felt much when I did them. Naturally, I was more inclined to do the exercises that I felt shift me. And no surprise, the ones that I didn't feel do anything for me, I didn't do as much. Even when I became more dedicated to the daily energy routine, I did the hook up and Celtic Weave, but it wasn't very inspiring...something to check off the list. What I found over time was that the systems that these exercises were designed to correct were areas of vulnerability for me (we all have them) and needed a different approach to make them hum.
At the class in Wales, people I worked with roughly fell into two categories - those whose Central and Governing meridians weren't connected, and those whose Aura were not protecting them enough (for those who know the lingo, detached and collapsed). Now each of these systems has an exercise in the DER which is supposed to bring it into balance. And we'd done these exercises a number of times, so in a perfect world, they would be in balance. I asked people as I worked with them: "Which exercises from the DER really change how you feel, and which ones don't feel like much or are a non-event?" For people whose Central and Governing meridians weren't connected, they said the Hook-Up didn't feel like much. For those whose Auras weren't strong, it was the Celtic Weave.
For each person, I went through the investigative process of determining where the energy needed additional balancing, and an appropriate modification for the DER exercise. And with the modified approach they felt a shift of energy when that system came into balance. It was amazing to experience their sense of relief when they immediately started to feel good!
For example, for those with the Hook Up not connecting, I checked each point on the Central and Governing meridians to determine where the energy was not flowing, and corrected each area (using a crystal or magnet). Typically, those I worked with had some stuck energy along the Governing meridian, specifically along the spine, albeit in different areas. I showed them how to do alternate hook ups in the area where the energy was blocked as a personalized modification to the basic hook up. The modification for one person was to hold the beginning and end points of the central meridian and then the governing meridian prior to doing the hook up. Holding the beginning and end points (at the same time) of any meridian is a great way to get the energy flowing freely in the meridian, and it will automatically strengthen the energy of the meridian or calm the energy of the meridian, based on what is needed in the moment.
Helping people identify specific modifications to the DER to make their own energies hum was my favorite part of the class. When your Aura is not protecting you, being around other people, and in particular crowds or groups can be challenging because "their stuff" gets in "your stuff." It can make a person feel irritable, prickly, unprotected, or overwhelmed. The connection of the Central and Governing meridians is a foundational energy flow. It needs to be balanced for full integration of the new energy patterns that have been established in other systems, and for energy to flow freely through the torso.
The work we did together changed their whole experience of the class. I got a lot of hugs and thanks for helping them, and a great sense of personal satisfaction at being able to help. And from my vantage helped to turn what might have ended up as an unfulfilling or negative experience for several students into a very positive one.
With Love, Sandy
