Energy medicine can come to us in many forms. I had a weekend class with Ellen Meredith in New York City called Energy Fluency. One of the things she spoke about was lifestyle medicine and it has changed my view of how accessible energy medicine can be for people. One of the things I have always loved about energy medicine is how accessible it is for people and now I see that from an even broader perspective.
During our class we all brought in household objects and put them in the center of the room. Ellen tested one of the students and her hook-up tested weak, meaning her Central and Governing meridians were not hooking up. The student then looked at all the objects and picked up a wooden giraffe. She held it right over her belly button and closed her eyes taking a few deep breaths. Ellen retested her and she was hooked-up!
Another student tested weak on her Thymus gland so the woman picked up an object and she actually ended up choosing my “safety blanket.” It’s actually a beautiful rainbow silk scarf. She put it around her and stood there for a few minutes describing how it felt – "safe, that everything is OK, etc." When re-tested, her Thymus gland was strong.
I am in love with the idea that an object we find beautiful or are just drawn to can actually heal us. Believe me I have been holding my “safety blanket” with a new appreciation and place it over areas that don’t feel right. The other night I was feeling emotionally uncomfortable in my stomach and I lay in bed with the scarf over that area and a calm came over me.
I have alot of knick knacks in my apartment and I spent a great deal of time putting together little areas of my “objects.” I have collected pewter wizards, and my apartment could literally be a crystal shop I have so many, large and small. I now take the time to give them love everyday. Even if I am just passing my crystal or something I love I say hello and send it love. It feels great to do that. I’m a believer that our homes should reflect healing through design and objects and if our home is our retreat center we can use everything in it as a healing tool. Sometimes I will want to take one of my “healing” objects out for the day because I feel it will support me in whatever I have to deal with. Usually it’s something that can fit in my purse or pocket, but hey, there are no rules.
Its innate in me to use nature or the outside do the same thing but I’m focusing on the many ways we can heal ourselves through what we are surrounded with everyday. I pay special attention to my bedroom as I want to be surrounded by loving healing and supportive products while I sleep.
What I would say to friends is that we absorb energy so be aware of what you surround yourself with because that inevitably becomes a part of you. And please don’t think it has to be precious. It really can be anything – a pen, book or even a can opener – you just have to be drawn to it at that moment and in that moment that object is ready and willing to heal. You also don’t have to know what is exactly out of balance, just go with your emotions and let your radiant imagination guide you. Just the way you will be drawn to the healing object is the same way you will be drawn to hold it over the part of your body that needs it. Have the mind of an investigator and experiment. Have fun with it. Make everything in your life Lifestyle Medicine.
