I recently spoke about how we create our own energy medicine through loving objects healing us and now I would like to discuss the opposite. Just the way aromatherapy can make you feel better, bad smells can make you sick. The same idea applies to objects and things we surround ourselves with. Not everything around us is helpful and sometimes we have too much clutter, which creates its own problems. The same thing can happen within us.
Let's start with what I feel is the most basic and fundamental idea of what I am talking about. If it feels good it is good and if it feels bad it is bad. We have all walked into a room and either felt better or worse without really understanding why. It comes down to the energy the room is filled with.
Sometimes when I know clutter has built up in a closet, let's say, just the idea of it sits in my head, taking up space and creating a heavy feeling of “this thing I am ignoring and really should be doing”. Really unhelpful. So, clearing and cleansing our surroundings and ourselves can be a great stress reliever!
Overall what I practice comes down to very simple common sense: get rid of the clutter, and reorganize on a regular basis. I keep a pretty clean house, but I have allowed things to pile up in the closets, as I may have alluded to earlier. So I have some work to do.
Clearing The Clutter
Let’s use that as a general umbrella term and it has two parts. Physical and non-physical. The physical is cleaning, organizing, giving things away and throwing things out. The non-physical is releasing the clutter within ourselves and re-organizing how we think and how much energy we choose to hold in our body and spirit.
Clearing the Physical
1. Get super literal and lose any unwanted weight - Personally when I am heavier than I would like to be slimming down just a bit not only makes me feel physically lighter but energetically clearer. I like to not make a big deal of it and just cut back on portions and exercise. It makes all the difference. I think of our physical bodies as a foundation, and foundations need to be strong and healthy.
2. Clear out the closets – Even if you do not throw out too much just reorganizing makes all the difference in looks and feel. And I personally always end up finding things I love that I thought were lost. Ideally I would spring clean once a month, or at least every few months worst case. That way nothing has the chance to build up to the point where it feels overwhelming.
3. Start a donation bag - As you go through your house / apartment - to give to charity and friends. Giving is a beautiful and healing action. Before you go down to your local salvation army or local donation center see if anything might be a good trade. I have had parties where everyone brings things they were going to throw out and we all trade. It is fun and a part of sustainable living.
Clearing the Non-Physical
1. Give yourself a cleansing color shower - Close your eyes, take slow deep breaths and turn your attention inward. Your internal wisdom is guiding you to what color your body needs for cleansing…see different colors swirling above your head and feel which one or ones you are attracted to…see this color showering down into the crown of your head, through your entire body, through every cell and organ healing what it needs to healed and washing away what you don’t need. You are energetically clearing out your energetic body. Let it wash out through your hands and feet. See any unhealthy “stories” easily swept away and out. See any heaviness being washed away by the radiant colors you have created in your mind. Allow the color shower to wash through you anywhere you feel tightness and continue to bath in this color shower until you feel clean and clear.
2. Siphoning out the clutter - This is used as a pain management exercise but it is slightly modified here to release energy in a different way. I learned this from Ellen Meredith, a gifted teacher and practitioner. It releases all the thoughts and energy that is taking up too much space. Some of what you release may be unnecessary to hold onto and you will let it wash away but other things are good things and we just don’t have room to hold it in our energy so you put it into an imaginary storage center, so to say. You just create a storage center, close your eyes and in your minds eye create a storage center. it can be anything from a box to a large filing room, whatever you imagine it to be is perfect. Now imagine that you have filing helpers that take care of everything. These filing helpers know what needs to be discarded, what needs to be saved. If you need something from storage they will get you the information and/or energy you need, when you need it, so you do not have to think about this process. Trust in your helpers, let go of the stories and clear away some space.
How to:
- Your left hand is placed over the left side of your head. The right hand is stretched outward with palm facing outward.
- Just breath slowly with your eyes closed and let the release happen.
- Then put your left hand over the right side of your head with the right keeping its outward position.
- Keep hand on your head as long as you feel comfortable. You will know when the release has ended and, if not, let’s say about one-two minutes as an average.
3. The Blow Out / Expelling Venom - Bend down and scoop / pull energy up your body with your hands. Inhale as you bring your hands upward, to over your head and now your hands should be in a fist position. Hold your breath and really tense up your body holding your fists tightly. Then, with a forceful exhale and making a woaaahh or sshh sound, release your hands downward as if shaking off something that has stuck to your hands. Do this a few times. You might try slowing it down the last time. Make it a slow deliberate blow out, it feels powerful.
