Awareness: The Central Meridian travels from the pubic bone to the lower lip, and the Governing Meridian begins at the tailbone and travels up the spine, over the head to the upper lip. They are designed to connect at the back of the throat and create a vibrant cycling of life force around and through the body, bringing strength and resiliency to all the other energy systems. When this connection is disturbed by stresses of various sorts, the integrity of the whole being is affected. I see the Hook Up like an orchestra that tunes up all its instruments – its energy flows and systems – and plays them to produce fine music, following the core thread of one melody, sung by the primary connection of these two energy pathways.

Practice: There are different ways to encourage the Hook Up connection. Donna Eden teaches to place the middle finger of one hand in the navel and the other between the eyebrows, press in, pull up, and breathe deeply for 30 seconds or more. She recommends this Hook Up as part of her Daily Energy Routine.
One of the ways I also like to reinforce the hook up between Central and Governing meridians is to work with several key points along these energy pathways. First, I place a finger or two of one hand in my navel, press in and tug upwards, while I rest some fingertips (or the palm) of my other hand on my sacrum. I breathe and envision the rosy light glowing up the Central channel, and bright golden light shining up the Governing channel, meeting at the back of my throat. I wait til I feel a sigh, a yawn or other sign of connection, and move the hand that was on my sacrum to the hollow at the base of my skull, called the "power point," keeping the other finger in my navel. I let the connection become strong, wait for a sign of connection, then move fingertips to the crown of my head while moving the other to the center of my chest, over the heart chakra. When I feel ready, I move the fingertips from my crown to between my eyebrows, and again rest the other fingertip in my navel, pressing in and tugging up with both fingers. Sometimes I enjoy singing a tone, or sounding the "Om" while holding these points, and often I speak my intentions with mindful focus.
I finish by tracing a celtic knot of figure 8s at my lips, tying together Governing and Central meridians with threads of light.
Mindful Focus:
My light shines clear and strong.
I am centered in the confidence of my essential self.
I am grounded in strength and courage.
All of my energies join in a unified harmony of song.
Warmly,
Lyn
