I’m an energy medicine practitioner but more than that I’m a mom. Or to my kids I’m MOM! So it’s only natural in the context of my daily life that I’ve woven my passions for energy medicine and parenting together. My kids have been and continue to be some of my best teachers.
So with this in mind I thought I’d share some of our family’s favorite Eden energy medicine adapted and inspired fun. While these were inspired by and created with my kids my hope is that these will resonate with the kid in each of us. My thanks to Jared (age 6), Elena (age 4), and Liam (age 2) for their ready enthusiasm to always try new energy medicine creations.
Pinkie Shoot Your Problems to the Moon (or Sun)!
When your heart is feeling heavy or you’re feeling overwhelmed Donna Eden teaches that you can put one hand on your heart and the other arm outstretched as if you’re dancing with a partner and then have all of your problems go down your outstretched arm and off your heart meridian. In our house we’ve revised this technique
Light Weaving Your Aura with Super Spinners of Light
I remember as a child being utterly captivated by super heroes and their powers. My children appear to be equally intrigued. I believe we each have our own super powers (aka talents or gifts) and part of life is finding and using these powers in creative ways. One of our family’s favorite super hero tools to play with are the “Super Spinners of Light.” We create our Spinners by hooking bracelet or necklace length glow stick jewelry together into long ropes using the connectors provided. (It’s a good idea to reinforce the connections with clear packing tape to help them hold.) We then crack the glow sticks to make them glow and have gobs of fun spinning these ropes of light all around us. We swing them like poi balls and do fancy tricks, weave figure eights, and/or just shimmy and shake the light all around us in whatever way makes our hearts happy. As we weave that light all through our auras we often discover our own inner super heroes who spring forth in rainbows of light and spread joy and laughter!
** Safety precaution: Leave lots of room around you when spinning these as they do sting if you get hit by them. Outdoors works best. (Night too obviously.)
“Telling Ears” -- Another Way to Say “I Love You!”
One of the kids’ bedtime rituals that they always ask for is “telling ears.” This was inspired by my listening to David Feinstein, PhD talk about how the two hemispheres of the brain process sensory input differently and ways these differences can be used to shift patterns of behavior by tapping along skull suture lines on each side of the head. (This particular technique is known as the “temporal tap” and more information can be found in the book Energy Medicine by Donna Eden with David Feinstein.) I had a sudden understanding that I could tell my kids I loved them in a way that they could hopefully really hear and understand more effectively energetically. I went home and immediately started “telling ears” as follows: I tell their left ear that, “I will never ever never ever ever stop loving you!” (Repeat “never ever” string to be as long as they like.) I then tell their right ear that, “I will always always always love you!” (Repeat “always” as requested.) I then say, “I love you, I love you, I love you!” and blow this intention all over the top of their head sending it into the pineal and pituitary glands and down the spinal cord. Then I repeat the three I love you’s and blow gently all over their face and into their eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. (Elena prefers I kiss all over her face instead.) My mental intention here is to gently cover some of the nine gates described in yoga where energy enters the body. (When my kids were babies they would giggle when I blew gently on their faces.) Hugs and kisses and good nights follow.
We’ve been doing this “telling ears” ritual for about five years now and the kids ask for it every single night. Jared and Elena say they can really feel the “loves” going in and traveling all over their bodies when I do this. It also seems to settle them all peacefully down for sleep. Interestingly enough the boys almost always request the right ear first and Elena prefers that I always start with her left ear. Sometimes the kids like to tell my ears in return and I’m always deeply moved when they do so. “Telling ears” has become one of our favorite ways to say “I love you.”
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading some of the ways our family plays with energy medicine. Thanks for allowing me to share our stories. I believe each of us holds many stories and I can’t wait for you to share some of yours!
May you always remember that you are cherished!
In love and light,
Jill
