With each breath we are gifted abundance. Breathing in through our nose and mouth, in through our chakras, in through our aura, in through our mingmen point and kidneys, in through the Wellspring of life on the ‘souls’ of our feet (yes, I know it is not the correct spelling for ‘sole’, but it is so appropriate. A future blog will be about the magical Wellspring of Life, which I see as an exchange point between our soul and the Earth).
And just to go off the beaten path a little…..I would offer that another place we breathe in deeply is through the area known as the raglan sleeves…the seam where our body meets our arms. An area of very powerful and sacred energy I used to wonder if this energetic opening was a vortex (before I knew how to test for a vortex), but it never felt to me that it was anything that was at all problematic or challenging. It looked somewhat similar to a vortex, but rather than the spiraling/tornado-like energy represented by a vortex, these openings look shimmery, more gentle, more beautiful. Imagine smearing that part of your body and aura with a little swirly honey and then throwing golden fairy dust on it…if you are seeing that in your mind’s eye then you are seeing what I see when there is energy moving in and out of those raglan sleeve areas. Again, much like the K1 point, I perceive it as an exchange point, a portal, this time between our spirit energy and the universal energy within which we exist. There are times when this area is not at all active or open…and that feels right for those times, but when it is active then there is an open-ness, a beautiful vulnerability that we experience.

It feels to me that there are some very fundamental shifts occurring in the collective consciousness of our modern societies, and also in the Earth. Whether or not you give any weight to the predictions of so many of the indigenous cultures (that we are entering a time of extreme change, the death of one way of being and the creation of a new, more inspired and enlightened global human society), it is hard to ignore the fact that our world is shifting. When we look at the challenges we face, an out-moded economic situation based on a flawed premise of continued growth and expansion, the immense value placed on status and material goods, a disease-care medical model rather than a healthcare medical model, changes in our climate, an Earth scarred by perceived human need, threatened mass extinction of hundreds of species of our animal brothers and sisters as well as our plant and tree brothers and sisters…well, enough…I could go on of course, but these are all aspects of life we are familiar with. In fact, not only familiar with, but often overwhelmed and exhausted by simply trying to get our heads around how we can help facilitate the shifts needed to truly heal and bring back to balance all of these dysfunctional aspects of modern life.

Earth Energies Rising (part 1): Get those hips moving!
Working with Earth Energy is such an enormous topic, I’m not sure why I’m choosing to blog about it! I suspect it will be good for a few of these postings but I’ll still have to keep myself disciplined to choose a few of the points that feel most vital.
Donna Eden, in her book, Energy Medicine for Women, describes an exercise called The Grandmother’s Secret. It is a simple exercise in which, lying on your back with your hands on your lower abdomen, you rotate your hips in a continual figure 8 pattern until you begin to feel that pattern pulsing within and around you. The figure 8 (all done with the hips) can be towards your head and your feet, which is the way that it is used in the Cherokee Nation, or can be from side to side, (the way it is used by women in the Middle East...think Belly Dance!). It is a fundamental rhythm that connects us to the earth. Well, more than that, it feels to me that it is the yin energies of the earth that are enveloping me, pulling me deep into the rich juiciness of the earth, and also into my own rich juiciness of being a woman, alive and conscious.

With each moment of sentience we create an energetic imprint that gets positioned in the great energy matrix within which we are all blessed to live.
Recently I was asked to go into a house build that was nearing completion. The family wanted me to clear the somewhat chaotic energy of construction, and invite the energies of balance and abundance into the house before they moved in.
I went from room to room helping weave the web of energy that filled the house. One part of the house was to be where aging parents would live. As I walked into this part I could strongly feel the energetic trace of the 89 year old man who had been to see his ‘home-to-be’ as it was being built and furnished. With all my senses I could trace where he had been in the house, feeling that energetic imprint as I moved through the rooms. When I went into the bathroom it was immediately clear that this wonderful Elder had not been into this specific room as his energetic imprint was not part of the web there. Later, through chatting to him he confirmed that he hadn’t been interested in seeing that room and had never stepped through the door. Furthermore, his energetic trace held much sadness, and while talking with him, I was able to touch on that. He had recently lost the home that he had lived in for decades in a fire and, although he was looking forward to moving into a shared house with his wife, daughter and grandchildren, he also felt sadness for what he was having to let go of.

Dragon breath is the name that I give to the breathing exercise that Donna Eden calls the ‘Darth Vader Breath.’ I began calling it ‘Dragon Breath’ after working with a client who had experienced sexual abuse; the concept of ‘Darth Vader’, with it’s dark, out-of-balance masculinity, was a frightening one to her and although the exercise was exactly what I thought would help her, I knew that unless she could find a way to identify with the name, she wouldn’t be able to connect with the breath and use it to help her heal. As she shuddered, ‘Yuk, Darth Vader.’ My brain scanned to find something more acceptable yet appropriate for the sound that the breath makes. ‘Dragon Breath’ I corrected. She relaxed, ‘Dragon Breath?’ she asked curiously, ‘ How do I do it?’. It highlights so greatly the power of the words that we use in our practice, and the essential need of the client to be able to identify with the words or the name of an exercise. I often find myself changing names of exercises or asking the client what words they feel most describes or epitomises the exercise that I am recommending for homework. And some of the names are fantastic. It helps the individual ‘own’ the exercise, increasing the probability of them working with it, and also of it working with them.

Hello! So glad to be able to share thoughts and experiences with EM here on this wonderful project. I wanted to give some background to the way that I work with healing (especially within the EM context).
I came to work with health through the paths of Reiki and Body work. Always having been able to see energy, it was very natural for me to see how and where a client/friend/loved one could be helped by connecting certain systems to other systems. I could see that by holding ‘this’ point with ‘this’ point made a huge difference to the amount of energy in their overall system, but what I lacked so greatly was the language through which to explain to the individual what I had done, what had happened with their energy and how they could continue to support such transformation in their daily lives. Enter Eden Energy Medicine. More than anything else, the gift of the language of energy was the gift that working with Donna’s understandings and the Certification Program gave to me.... truly being able to explain what had been effective and why.
Today I want to concentrate on an area of EM that is very dear to my heart; that of neurovascular points. I LOVE neurovasculars (NVs). The power of those dime sized areas is immense and there are very few sessions that I give that don’t include working with NVs in some way. They are mostly concentrated around the head, although there are the NVs that relate to the Triple Warmer meridian and Gallbladder meridian in the notch at the base of the throat, and also the Gallbladder meridian NVs behind the knees. NVs work on the regulation and flow of blood, in the body, with each meridian having a NV that relates to it. By gently holding the NV it is possible to bring balance and energy into the merdian system.
