Energy in Harmony is the name I call my Energy Medicine business. It is also my intention or mantra for how I am with myself and with others, in my everyday life and in my work.
About 12 years ago I took a two-year Hakomi body-mind psychotherapy training. We were introduced to the concept of “tracking” at the time. Tracking in Hakomi terms means paying close attention to our own body and inner sense to notice any physical or emotional responses that come up in our interaction with a partner or in response to a verbal or physical contact. Hakomi embraces the Buddhist practice of Mindfulness meditation, a part of the non-judgmental internal and relational exploration we practiced in class.

One of the more memorable experiences I had doing Energy Medicine on hospice patients was the one in which after several sessions, the client I’ll call Jim, refused a couple of sessions. I assured him that it was entirely up to him whether or not he received energy medicine and that I would continue to make regular hospice nurse visits as long as he felt they were helpful. Though he had experienced deep relaxation and reduction of his considerable anxiety and pain, when I asked if he wanted to continue, he declined.

20 minute Eden Energy Medicine Pain/Distress Relief Protocol Teaching Tool
A CAM/Complementary and Alternative Medicine technique for Caregivers helping frail or elderly clients:
Jane K. Lesher, RN, MSN, EEMCL-P, CHPN
Steps 8-16 and Finishing Touches
8. Hold Stomach Meridian Points:
Holding the first points at the beginning of the stomach meridian moves energy that may be stuck as in bloating, nausea, indigestion, or even difficult emotions.
- After preparing your client by explaining what the next step is, slowly and lightly touch your second or third fingertips just below both of your client’s lower eyelids. If touching the skin seems too intense, hold the points in the field about 1 inch above the skin. Hold for 1-2 minutes.

My intent in publishing the results of my Eden Energy Medicine clinical practicum project is that it may be of help, in whole or in part, to practitioners and other care givers of hospice and other frail or seriously ill people. I have provided source references throughout and I borrowed from the Eden Energy Medicine Certification Program (EEMCP) 2009-2010 Practitioner’s Sourcebook. The Therapeutic Protocols section on “Therapeutic Touch: Guidelines for Working with a Client” recommends additional training in how to touch people safely, respectfully, and effectively and offers some general guidelines. I would repeat that caution, as there are too many complex issues and considerations to address on that topic here.
I would much appreciate any feedback or comments on the Protocol tool. I am also open to future personal communication about the use of the protocol. And just a note about my hospice credentials: I have been a hospice nurse for over 20 years and the CHPN refers to my Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse status.

Being a health care provider during an economic meltdown is challenging. I find myself more torn between being present to each of my patients’ situations for whatever time is needed to help during a crisis and being mindful of the needs of my other patients. My employer’s expectation is that I complete increased numbers of visits within an 8-hour timeframe no matter what the complexity! So my focus for my Energy Medicine Clinical Practicum was on developing quickie-balancing interventions with measurable results.
I developed an Eden Energy Medicine protocol that addresses pain and distress in frail or elderly clients. My next Making Eden Energy My Own blog posts will relay the process of integrating Energy Medicine into my hospice practice using the 20 minute protocol I developed and will include some of my findings. This post will address some preliminary steps. I will share the protocol contents in upcoming posts.

TAKING TIME IN A HECTIC DAY TO SMELL THE PETUNIAS
Frequently in my encounters with hospice patients or caregivers there isn’t enough time for a full session or the recipient is too weak or overwhelmed to tolerate much intervention. There’s an ongoing tension within me about only having a few minutes with someone when I know that regular and longer energy medicine sessions can be so powerful. But the reality is that we live in times that often become very full with the complexity of our lives and I empathize with those wanting quick fixes.
Here are some intentions that I have when I have only a few minutes:
- move the energies in the moment to provide relief of distressing symptoms;
- engage and reinforce resources the person can access when stuck in distress;
- introduce and welcome a potential student or client to Eden Energy Medicine.

It’s so easy to put off taking care of myself in favor of taking care of others or letting inertia take over. I admit that sometimes the energy routine I do with a client is the first that day or that I use my fatigue as an excuse not to release the dissonant energies of the day with a blow out and zip up. It seems healthier to track my energy and notice what elevates my spirit, what drains me and to deliberately add nourishing elements to my routine and spend a little time letting go of the things that deplete me.
Ziggy and Tara
Last Saturday I adopted Ziggy, a Corgi mix. Ziggy was the name of a character from the TV series a number of years ago called Quantum Leap, where the main character would find himself transported into a totally different life and be compelled to adjust to a completely different reality. Just as I imagine Ziggy the dog finds himself suddenly transported from the parking lot of the Lees Summit Petco after a year in the rescue kennel into his “forever home”- our home.

Grounding with a California Redwood
Welcome to my little corner of cyberspace within the womb of the Making Eden Energy Medicine Our Own community! I am grateful to be a part of this nurturing extension of Donna and David’s vision to “raise the vibration of the planet one person at a time”. My intention as a part of this amazing circle of EEM proponents is to be a comfy place for support and reflection on how EM moves, intuits and informs our world.
My initial ideas on what I would write for my first blog were scrambled last Wednesday when I tripped, twisted my ankle and fell fracturing the 5th metatarsal of my right foot at the base. I should explain that I am a hospice nurse and was leaving the home of an elderly patient facing the crisis of cancer and failing organs and stressed family caregivers.
